Director of Legal Services

If you’re looking to play a key role in transforming the legal sector within a growing company, we are currently seeking a Director of Legal Services to join our team.

In this role, you will be primarily responsible for coaching and organizing the work of the legal team, while contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and methods.

Main Responsabilities

  • Supervise, support, and help develop the legal team on a day-to-day basis
  • Plan and coordinate work schedules and task distribution based on priorities and available resources
  • Ensure the quality of legal interventions: review analyses, check documentation, conduct internal audits
  • Manage sensitive situations: escalations, complaints, complex files
  • Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and performance evaluations of the team
  • Collaborate with management on matters of compliance, professional ethics, and risk management
  • Maintain strong relationships with corporate clients by responding to specific requests and providing personalized follow-up
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of client-facing training or presentations
  • Oversee the drafting of relevant legal content (newsletters, articles, etc.) for clients

 

Profile

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a civil law lawyer
  • Member of the Quebec Bar for at least 5 years (or of another Canadian Bar)
  • Excellent command of both French and English, written and spoken, enabling smooth communication with both francophone and anglophone clients
  • Inspiring leadership, strong organizational skills, and high professional standards
  • Ability to structure processes, document efficiently, and lead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong skills in coaching, mentoring, and interpersonal communication
  • Sharp analytical skills, pragmatic mindset, and attention to detail
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office tools and CRM-type systems (an asset)
  • Experience in civil litigation or the insurance sector (an asset)

Responsibilities:

  • Responding to clients’ requests for legal information on matters as varied as the functioning of the courts, neighbourhood disturbances, protection orders, family law, latent defects, severance payments or contractual disputes related to the purchase of a property
  • Explain legal information in plain language to facilitate understanding of it
  • Conducting case law research
  • Manage legal expenses insurance claims
  • Write formal notices and review contracts
  • Conducting negotiations

We want to meet with you if you:

  • Member of the Quebec Bar since 5 years or of another Canadian Bar or both
  • Experience in civil and administrative law
  • Fluency in French and English both written and spoken
  • Good knowledge of research tools (CAIJ, Azimut, CanLII)
  • Ability to offer legal information in plain language
  • Common Law degree considered an asset
